The song "Two Tone Thom" was played last night over the closing credits on "Dawson's Creek." It fit the plot perfectly, and it was great to hear a favorite song unexpectedly. TWT to not play at the 2002 Academy Awards January 20, 2002 - At a disapointing press conference last Saturday, guitarist Sam Teller announced to the large audience of reporters and sobbing fans that TWT will not be expected to play at this year's Academy Awards. This decision flew not only flew in the face of popular demand in the United States, but also deeply upset fans who attended the TWT World Tour. "All i wanted to do was to see my favorite band play The Bend on TV!" said a grief-stricken Alib Muhammed Al-Bafaar-il of Saudi Arabia. In a recent letter of apology, bassist/vocalist Andrew Lim suggested " In regards to our cancelled performance the night of the Oscars, we reccomend that the Academy consider booking other equally or higher esteemed rock bands. P Diddy comes to mind, or maybe Elton John." In any event, all members of TWT strongly urge that the show must go on without them.

Then We Will Thrash Sick of Rap Metal
Rico Estrada is sick of new metal. "I'm afraid of the whole thing now," says the Then We Will Thrash singer, who helped invent the style. "It's getting so diluted that it isn't even interesting anymore. It's soulless."
On TWT's new album, Untouchables, due out June 11th, Estrada says the band is striving for a record as lasting as the darkly epic works of Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
"The subject matter is generally about being an outcast, and being fed up with being a victim," says Estrada. "I've always been scared to tell people what I think of them. So it's me getting some balls."
The results can be heard on the album's first single, "Here to Stay," built on TWTs familiar blend of grinding guitars and tribal beats, accented with melodic passages. That song is already a radio hit, and other new tracks such as "Blame" and "One More Time," which reveal a touch of Eighties goth, show the band stretching into new terrain. Since giving up drinking four years ago, Estrada says he has had lots of time to work on his craft. With the new album, he was able to present finished songs to the band for the first time. "Everything in Then We Will Thrash is done equally, and nobody has any attitudes," he says. "And if feelings get hurt, we talk it out. It's nice to work in those conditions, where anything goes." |
